A fascinating meeting place between sea and land
The Lofoten Aquarium is situated in Storvågan, Kabelvåg, in the immediate vicinity of Gallery Espolin, the Lofoten Museum and Nyvågar Rorbu Hotel.

The first aquarium in Kabelvåg was opened in 1931 and was in operation until 1985, when it was closed down for safety reasons. Today’s aquarium, with its distinctive design and scenic location, was opened in 1989 and is visited by over 50,000 people every year.

In our variety of aquaria you can see fish and marine mammals from Lofoten and along the coast of North Norway. Lofoten Aquarium presents life in the sea, from the shore to the deepest depths, and also provides you with knowledge of the marine ecosystem.

Additionally, you will find a multimedia show and film shows, and in mid April we will be opening our 3D cinema. In our pleasant cafe you can enjoy delicious, local dishes while taking in the fantastic view, and in our gift shop you will find excellent souvenirs from Lofoten. Remember to take the opportunity of visiting our viewing platform, from where you have a wonderful view of the surrounding area and the mighty Mount Vågakallen.

A new exhibition entitled ”Co-existence in the Seas” was opened in 2008. The exhibition visualises the co-existence between various trades and industries within the fisheries, aquaculture and the petroleum sectors in our waters, and emerges as a centre of learning with a range of interactive solutions and films.
